FFA

The FFA organization at South Tech High School is comprised of students in the Horticulture and Veterinary Assistance majors.

Horticulture Landscape and Turf management is a two year agricultural education course designed to prepare a student for an entry-level position or continued training at a post-secondary school.

Vet assistants and technicians play a major role in the health care of pets, farm, zoo and laboratory animals. Students also have the opportunity to participate in an internship and earn pet first aid certification.

South Tech FFA is very much a community service organization.  Students work with many animal rescue groups from events to grooming.  Students also provide landscaping and plants for school grounds and nusing homes.  Our FFA chapter sponsors children every Christmas that are in need.  We have worked with young children in the past teaching them about agriculture and self-esteem in a program called PALS.

Students attend the National FFA Convention every year.  Here they get to attend leadership workshops and learn from speakers from all over the country and meet students from our organization that has about 500,00 high school members.  We also participate in judging contest on a district level.  In the past, some of those have been plant id, soil judging, and horse judging.

We hold monthly meetings run by a group of student officers.  Students can get involved and be an officer, a committee chairperson, and member.  We say FFA stands for For the Future of America.
